Background Information

Developed over the course of nearly twenty years of research on peer learning at the University of Pittsburgh

  • Peer Review/Assessment: Peerceptiv supports a wide range of assignment types including writing, presentations, video uploads, computer code, and more. Students receive more formative feedback while generating grades that correlate highly with how an expert would assess those same artifacts.
  • Real-time Peer Review: Peer assessment for live presentations that actively engages students in the audience (online or in the classroom) in rubric-based peer reviewing.
  • Team Evaluation: Allows students to provide quantitative and qualitative feedback to group members to improve collaboration skills and group dynamics. This may include 360-style reviews.
  • Group Formation: Provides a fast and effective way to form groups that gives students agency. Students can use rank-order selection to choose which topics they prefer, a scheduler to find groups with common availability, and instructors can write their own survey questions to use as parameters for group formation. Groups will be able to be passed back to the LMS once formed.
  • Skills-based outcome mapping: Any rubric criteria within Peerceptiv can be mapped to specific learning outcomes or program goals using the outcomes tagging system. Student mastery is displayed across multiple rubric criteria at the student, assignment, course, or program level.
  • Administrator Dashboard: Access high-level and granular data about Peerceptiv usage across campus or program. Search for specific courses, instructors, or students to chart student interactions and activity, view assignment-level data, and track longitudinal progress

Product Description

Peerceptiv, the research-validated peer learning and collaboration technology, improves critical thinking skills by engaging students in the role of the teacher. Built on research that demonstrates students learn more giving feedback than receiving it - Peerceptiv includes Peer Review/Assessment, Team Member Evaluation, Presentation Evaluation, and Group Formation tools. Peerceptiv automatically scales no matter how many students there are, allowing instructors to more easily assign the tasks that build critical thinking, collaboration, and meta-cognition skills. Whether using Peerceptiv for in-classroom or online courses, Peerceptiv makes assessment part of the learning process itself. Using peer ratings and reliability data, Peerceptiv can generate scores that are research-validated to be as accurate as traditional instructor marking, removing the marking bottleneck and allowing for more efficient instruction at lower cost.

Peerceptiv Tools

Peerceptiv is used by over 150 institutions around the world, assisting the learning and development of over 500,000 annually. Click the below links to learn more about each tool that is included in the platform.

Key Features:

  • Bias Free: Peerceptiv is an anonymous peer learning technology. Peerceptiv reduces inherent bias that is common in traditional assessment practices. Instructors can feel confident that feedback and grades are based solely on predetermined performance rubrics, resulting in a true measure of student mastery. With anonymous reviewing, students are empowered in the role of reviewer, no matter their ability level or cultural background. When peers review each other anonymously, diverse perspectives accelerate student growth.
  • Collaborative Learning: Peerceptiv’s research-validated framework provides a platform for truly collaborative learning. Collaboration is most successful when students with diverse perspectives push each other to improve. With instructor-created commenting prompts, students are encouraged to provide high-quality, constructive, and specific comments to one another. Commenting on a classmate’s work, both good and bad, is a valuable learning opportunity.
  • Instructor Analytics: Peerceptiv offers instructors a powerful tool to verify and improve learning outcomes through the analytics dashboard. Based on algorithms developed over a decade at the University of Pittsburgh, Peerceptiv’s data dashboard allows instructors to: quickly identify students in need of intervention, differentiate instruction on future assignments, and track student progress through assignments. These analytics are specifically designed to improve higher order skills, like critical thinking, writing, and argumentation.
