Managing growing estates to meet changing and increasingly complex needs, with reduced resources, are just some of the challenges faced by university estate management teams across the UK.

Universities no longer need to rely on outdated static CAD floorplans with lengthy manual processes to understand their operational picture. Now, universities can view all of their assets, people, and spaces across their buildings, rooms, and floors in one interactive digital map. Mapping indoor environments provides any estate management staff with the complete, real-time, operational view of any part of their university which will help them to optimise space utilisation, improve asset management, and streamline maintenance activities.

EDINA will be sharing how their mapping and application development work, undertaken in partnership with colleagues at the University of Edinburgh Estates Department, is delivering the benefits of promoting active travel across the campus and providing an informative interactive map for new students. They will discuss how the project has highlighted additional estates needs now being considered in a geospatial context including assisting students find quiet study space, measuring green infrastructure and visualising energy consumption.
