Product Description

STACK is an online assessment system for mathematics and science which accepts mathematical answers and provides sophisticated feedback. STACK is built by mathematics educators for their teaching. Key innovations in STACK are:

  • The separation of 'validity' feedback from 'assessment' feedback. Students always get validity feedback, even in an exam, helping them understand what a question expects
  • Feedback is based on computer algebra calculations, providing specific information on how to improve on the task
  • Randomly generated questions, supported by unit testing, to ensure quality before students try them
  • An active community contributing user-support, innovations, materials and multi-languages
  • Over 650 Moodle sites use STACK

STACK is underpinned by a number of committed organisations/individuals including:

  • An International Advisory Board helping to oversee strategic developments of the system. The Advisory Board promotes the long-term sustainability of the software and invites contributions from diverse stakeholders
  • A 'Network of STACK Professionals'. The Network of STACK Professionals is a community group for colleagues who spend a significant portion of their time writing STACK questions, often in support of a wide range of courses
  • A newly created STACK Development Manager at the University of Edinburgh School of Maths

STACKED is a wholly hosted STACK installation offering customers all the benefits of STACK without the administrative burden of managing a STACK/Moodle instance. EDINA at the University of Edinburgh, experts in online service delivery, offers the following commitment to customers:

  • They run Moodle and STACK in a scalable, robust architecture
  • They keep Moodle and STACK up to date with the latest versions
  • They have published accessibility, data privacy and cookies statements
