Product Description

Classical World Online Package comprising:

  • New Pauly Online contains all content from Brill’s New Pauly (English, 20 volumes + 2 index volumes) as well as the original German version, Metzler’s Der Neue Pauly. Fifteen volumes (Antiquity, 1-15) are devoted to Greco-Roman antiquity. They cover more than two thousand years of history, ranging from the second millennium BC to early medieval Europe.
  • Jacoby Online (including content updates) is anchored in the work of Felix Jacoby, who started the work of collecting fragments and writing commentaries. To his Die Fragmente der Griechischen Historiker I-III (1923-1959) are added two new editions, Brill's New Jacoby(2006-2021) and Brill's New Jacoby - Second Edition(2016-), both edited by Ian Worthington.
Felix Jacoby himself was unable to finish the collection, but in the 1990s, the work on Die Fragmente der Griechischen Historiker resumed, resulting in FGrHist Part IV, currently edited by Stefan Schorn, and FGrHist Part V, currently edited by Hans-Joachim Gehrke and Felix Maier.
  • Supplementum Epigraphicum Graecum (including content updates) is an annually updated publication collecting newly published Greek inscriptions and studies on previously known documents. It covers the entire Greek world from the early Greek period until the 8th century A.D. Supplementum Epigraphicum Graecum presents complete Greek texts, and a critical apparatus, of new inscriptions; it summarizes new readings, interpretations, and studies of known inscriptions, and occasionally presents the Greek text of these documents.

Index Islamicus Online (including content updates) international classified bibliography of publications in European languages on all aspects of Islam and the Muslim world from 1906 onwards until the present day. Material cited in the Index Islamicus includes not only work written about the Middle East, but also about the other main Muslim areas of Asia and Africa, plus Muslim minorities elsewhere.

Encyclopaedia of Islam and Encyclopaedia of the Qur'ān Online Package, Comprising:

Encyclopaedia of Islam – (including content updates) Two 'editions' are included in the EI Online:

  • The Encyclopaedia of Islam Second Edition (EI2, published from 1955-2005)
A continuation of the highly acclaimedEncyclopaedia of Islam First Edition (1913-1936)*. The EI2's geographical scope encompasses the old Arabic-Islamic empire, the Islamic countries of Iran, the Ottoman Empire, Central Asia, the Indian sub-continent, Indonesia and many other Islamic countries. Entries are on religion, geography, ethnology, history, topography, culture and Muslims who have distinguished themselves in any particular aspect. Finished in 2005, the EI2 is a massive resource spanning five decades of scholarship.
  • The Encyclopaedia of Islam THREE (EI3, Third Edition, ongoing)
The Third Edition of Brill's Encyclopaedia of Islam is an entirely new work, with new articles reflecting the great diversity of current scholarship and developments in methodology. EI3 is a 'work in progress', appearing in regular installments every year. Many of its entries have been completely rewritten from previous editions. Alongside 1400 years of history, the new scope includes comprehensive coverage of Islam in the 20th and 21st Centuries, an even larger geographical scope (worldwide), a stronger focus on history, art, society, and culture, as well as Muslim minorities all over the world.

Combined as the EI Online, these two resources provide the most comprehensive and insightful coverage of the world of Islam available today. It is indispensable to scholars working in Islamic Studies, geographers, sociologists, journalists, policy makers and NGO's with an interest in Muslim culture and Islam. A must-have addition for any library collection.

World Religion Database International Religious Demographic Statistics and Sources

The World Religion Database (WRD) contains detailed statistics on religious affiliation for every country in the world. It is the major source to render a definitive picture of international religious demography. The WRDprovides both current and historical data, as well as sophisticated forecasts of future developments. For each of the world’s religions, best estimates at multiple dates for the period 1900 to 2050 are given. The WRDalso offers access to the sources which underlie the figures in the database, such as censuses and surveys. Through an interactive feedback mechanism users can leave comments on sources or methodology related to any figure reported in the WRD. The WRD is constantly updated with new sets of data as they become available, such as estimates of religious affiliation at the province level and religious freedom information for all countries in the world.

World Christian Database which complements the World Religion Database, was completely refurbished in 2018. It includes detailed information on 9,000 Christian denominations and on religions in every country of the world. Extensive data are available on 238 countries and 13,000 ethno-linguistic peoples, as well as on 5,000 cities and 3,000 provinces. This extraordinary database is an invaluable reference tool for professionals, scholars, students, agencies, health organizations, and news media. Information is readily available on religious activities, growth rates, religious literature, worker activity, and demography. Additional secular data is included on population, health, education, languages, and communication. All this information makes the WCD an invaluable resource for anyone interested in Christian and religious demography and the history of Christianity. Thousands of sources are evaluated and reviewed on a weekly basis.
