Eligible Institutions

This Agreement is available to Institutions of Higher and Further Education in the UK and Research Councils in the United Kingdom, and to Higher and Further Education Institutions (Third Level Colleges) in the Republic of Ireland.

This is a renewal of an agreement first negotiated in 2008 with an updated product range and enhanced bundles.

Product Description

  • Maple - mathematics software tool providing a mathematical computation engine with integrated numerics and symbolics. Thousands of mathematical functions, hundreds of 2-D and 3-D plotting routines, and professional publishing tools. The Maple site licence includes MapleNet and Precalculus and Calculus Study Guides. In addition Teaching Calculus with Maple and Maple Player are available free of charge via the MapleSoft web site and Maple Player for iPad is available via Apple App store.

Student and Staff Distribution/Virtualisation extension

This allows Maple to be deployed using remote access from file servers or hosted server software. In addition Maple and MapleSim can be distributed to all staff and students for home use.

Eduserv fee is £300 plus VAT per annum or £810 if all three years are paid upfront  (no banding).

Licences commence for 3 years from the date of countersignature of the licence by Maple.

Pricing is fixed for three years of a site's licence and for the first three years of the agreement. However, there is a right of review of pricing three years in to the agreement but prices may rise by no more than compound inflation.

Payment Terms

On receipt of a completed order, Sites will be invoiced by Maple for the first year of the licence. For each subsequent year, Sites will be invoiced one month in advance of the anniversary date of the Agreement. Purchase orders and payments for the licence fee must be made out to 'Maplesoft'. Invoices are payable within 30 calendar days of the date of invoice.

Price is fixed at time of sign-up to the Agreement for the full term of the 3-year licence.

Sites may, if they wish, pay a single charge to Maple to cover their commitment period (3 years). 

The Chest Fee is payable to Eduserv.  Purchase orders should be made out to 'Eduserv' for this element of the licence only.

Commitment Period

Institutions may participate at any time during the 5 year period; however, they will be bound by the terms and conditions, including payments for three years from their enrolment.

  3. Complete one Purchase Order made out to Maplesoft, Broers Building, 21 J J Thomson Avenue, Cambridge, CB3 0FA for the product licence pricing.
  4. Complete one Purchase Order made out to Eduserv for the Eduserv Fee
  5. Return the completed licence form and Waterloo Maple Inc. and Eduserv Purchase Orders:

Licence Type

This Site licence is subject to the terms and conditions for the Standard Chest Licence for Software.

Copying of the Software is allowed in accordance with the terms and conditions for the Standard Chest Licence for Software.

Termination Clauses

At the end of the agreement period sites must remove the Maple and /or Maple T.A. software, along with any add-ons, from their systems.

The use of the Product for the administration and management of the Licensee’s educational and research operations is permitted under this Licence.

No Home Use. This Licence Agreement includes home use for 100 lecturers for Maple or MapleSim. Student and other staff home use of Maple and MapleSim is not included, unless the Student & Staff Distribution/Virtualisation Extension has been purchased by the Licensee.

Hosted Servers. Other than inclusive home use for up to 100 lecturers, the Licence Agreement excludes home use of the Software on personal computers so hosted installations cannot allow this use, unless the Student & Staff Distribution/Virtualisation Extension has been purchased by the Licensee.

File Servers. You may install the Software on computer file server(s) within your internal network for use of the Software initiated by an individual from a computer within the same internal network only (that is, not VPN or remotely accessible). You cannot install or access (either directly or through commands, data or instructions) the Software from or to a computer that is not part of your internal network. Operations not initiated by an individual user (for example, automated server processing) are not allowed.

Hosted server software (for example, Citrix, Remote Desktop/Terminal Services, etc). The Software may be installed and used on a hosted server software server for direct usage by users (no automated, programmatic, or scripted usage), providing the users are using the Software on a Licensee owned or operated computer.

Personal Licences

Maple can be accessed from personal computers by students using a thin client network (e.g. Citrix, etc) or using remote access software (e.g. PCAnywhere, etc) only if the Student Distribution Extension has been purchased.

If the Student Distribution Extension has not been purchased then students may purchase a Personal Licence for £75 (excluding delivery and VAT) directly from Maplesoft.

Academic staff can apply for a free home use licence for Maple and the Maple Toolboxes by applying to Maplesoft who will issue a single user Purchase Code.

This agreement does not include the provision of training and training materials other than the built-in examples. Group training is available from Maplesoft at normal rates.
