Commitment Period

This Agreement is of 3 years duration. Institutions may join the agreement at any time during the agreement period.

Eligible Institutions

Universities, colleges and other learning, educational and research bodies in the UK and Republic of Ireland.

IUPAC Standards Online

IUPAC Standards Online is a database built from IUPAC’s standards and recommendations, which are extracted from the journal Pure and Applied Chemistry (PAC). The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) is the organization responsible for setting the standards in chemistry that are internationally binding for scientists in industry and academia, patent lawyers, toxicologists, environmental scientists, legislation, and more. “Standards” are definitions of terms, standard values, procedures, rules for naming compounds and materials, names and properties of elements in the periodic table, and many more. The database is the only product that provides for the quick and easy search and retrieval of IUPAC’s standards and recommendations which until now have remained unsorted within the huge Pure and Applied Chemistry archive.

Terms and Conditions

The Chest Order, together with the Licence Terms and Conditions, and any exceptions listed below, create a legally binding contract between your institution, organisation or company and the Licensor. Therefore please read the terms and conditions carefully and only submit a Chest Order if its terms and conditions are acceptable to your institution, organisation or company and you have the authority to make the financial commitment shown.

Payment Terms

Outright Purchase
On receipt of a completed Order, Institutions will be invoiced for the Agreement year in which the Licence is signed.

Annual Updates and Subscriptions
On receipt of a completed Order, Institutions will be invoiced for the Agreement year in which the Licence is signed covering updates produced in the year to 31 December 2019, 2020 or 2021 as applicable.

In subsequent years, Institutions will be invoiced three months in advance of the anniversary date of the Agreement, on 1 October 2019 and 2020.

There is monthly pro-rata charging for Institutions which become licensed partway through a licence year.

Chest is an Enterprise of Jisc. All Purchase orders must be made out to JISC, One Castlepark, Tower Hill, Bristol, BS2 0JA 

Payments are due within thirty days of invoice date; recipients of late payments are entitled to interest in accordance with UK statutory provisions.

What can authorised users do?

  • The resources may not be used for anything other than Educational Purposes
  • Downloading of large amounts of material by authorised users that might be considered ‘systematic’.

Termination Clauses

Subject to any Fee shown on the Website, the Licensee may retain an electronic copy of the Licensed Material in its archives for reference only. Copies of parts of the Licensed Material already made and/or used by the Licensee or Authorised Users in accordance with clause 2.2 may be retained and used in accordance with the terms of this Licence Agreement – see Licence Term 10.5.

Archive Rights
Opt out rights and notice period – Annual subscriptions and updates may be cancelled by giving notice on or before 30 September annually.
